Major-General Feroz Khan Shot in Johannesburg
Deputy head of crime intelligence wounded in attack; investigation underway as questions arise over possible link to police corruption inquiry.
Johannesburg – Major-General Feroz Khan, the deputy head of crime intelligence, was shot on Sunday evening while driving home in Johannesburg. He was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
A shooting under scrutiny
Police have confirmed that the incident is under investigation. Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the national police spokesperson, cautioned against drawing premature conclusions.
"It is premature and irresponsible to speculate on any possible motive or to conclude that the incident is linked to his anticipated appearance before the commission."

Khan was scheduled to appear before the Madlanga commission, an inquiry investigating criminality within the police force.
Context of the commission
The commission was established after Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi alleged in July that organized crime groups had infiltrated the government.
Authorities have not yet identified any suspects or a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
