Google Unveils Deeper Gemini & Play Store Integration on Android

Gemini on Android can now help you find and install apps, games, and even buy in-app items by simply asking in a conversation.

Google has announced that the Gemini app on Android now integrates with the Google Play Store. This new feature enables users to search for and install applications, games, and in-app digital items through conversational prompts.

Users can ask Gemini for app recommendations.
Examples include: "What are some meditation apps?" or "Recommend a good map app for my phone to download while I’m traveling internationally."

Some prompts display a Play Store card.
This card includes app ratings, download counts, and a "View more in Google Play" link. Tapping an app opens its listing for installation.

Other prompts provide a traditional Gemini response.
In these cases, Gemini describes the options, and users can follow up with commands like "Install [app name]" or "Download [game name]" to get the Play card.

The integration also supports purchasing in-app digital items.
Users can buy subscriptions or digital gift cards. Examples include: "Purchase [in-app item] for [game name]" or "Buy [store name] gift card."

Important Note: Google notes that Gemini can only recommend in-app items for apps that are already installed on the device. Furthermore, not all apps support purchases through this integration.

To set up the Google Play connected app, users can enter one of the example prompts. Gemini will then guide them through the process to connect the Play Store.

Be aware that the integration is rolling out gradually. As of the article's publication, it did not appear on tested devices.
