Rider Injured in Revesby Crash, Rescued by Off-Duty Student Paramedic

A 23-year-old motorcyclist is recovering in hospital after a serious collision in Revesby, Sydney, on May 26. The rider, Jason Sawyer, sustained a fractured femur and was thrown 15 metres from his bike on Milperra Road.
Police allege a car ran a red light and struck Sawyer as he was riding through the intersection. No charges have been laid as investigations continue.
A Desperate Call
In the moments after the crash, Sawyer called his mother, Kylie, believing his injuries might be fatal.
“I called my mother because I thought I might die,” he said.
Kylie arrived at the scene shortly after being contacted by her son.
A Stranger Stops to Help
Daryl Payne, a student paramedic driving home from work, came across the accident and immediately stopped to assist. Payne provided comfort and first aid until professional paramedics arrived on scene.
Payne later noted that “the severity of the injury was concentrated in one location,” which surprised him given the force of the impact.
The Aftermath
Sawyer was taken to hospital, where he underwent two surgeries, received four blood transfusions, and was treated for compartment syndrome—a serious condition caused by pressure buildup from internal bleeding.
Gratitude and Recovery
Sawyer described Payne’s assistance as providing “a feeling of safety” during a terrifying ordeal. Payne later visited Sawyer in hospital after being contacted by the family.
Sawyer expressed deep gratitude for Payne’s actions, praising the quick thinking and compassion of the stranger who stopped to help.
