Nintendo Switch 2 Leads the Market in Its Fifth Month
Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in Europe for May 2026, with 173,785 units sold.
According to VGChartz estimates, the Nintendo Switch 2 topped European sales in May 2026, moving 173,785 units. The PlayStation 5 ranked second with 123,693 units, followed by the aging Nintendo Switch 1 (32,521 units) and Xbox Series X|S (28,674 units).

Sales for the incumbent consoles continued to fall sharply compared to May 2025:
- PS5 sales dropped by 159,952 units (-56.4%)
- Xbox Series X|S sales fell by 12,143 units (-29.8%)
- Switch 1 sales declined by 59,841 units (-64.8%)
Comparison to Previous Generations
All current consoles significantly underperformed their predecessors at comparable points in their life cycles:
- Switch 2 (173,785) vs. Switch 1 in May 2018 (189,412): nearly 16,000 units lower
- PS5 (123,693) vs. PS4 in May 2019 (347,183): over 223,000 units lower
- Xbox Series X|S (28,674) vs. Xbox One in May 2019 (69,889): over 41,000 units lower
Month-on-Month Change (April to May 2026)
- Switch 2 sales decreased by nearly 8,000 units
- PS5 sales decreased by over 18,000 units
- Xbox Series X|S sales increased by nearly 6,000 units
- Switch 1 sales increased by nearly 2,000 units
