Missing Giraffe Found Alive After Two-Week Ordeal in Texas
A young giraffe named Gracie, missing for nearly two weeks from a private ranch in Texas, was safely located on Friday—approximately four miles from her home.
Real County Sheriff Nathan Johnson confirmed that Gracie was discovered during an aerial search. The giraffe was found wandering near a pond and creek, an area rich with natural vegetation that likely sustained her during her absence.
"She is in good health," said owner Vick Jones, who is preparing for her safe return. Gracie, roughly 3 years old and weighing at least 1,200 pounds, is not aggressive toward humans.
The Escape and Recovery
According to Jones, Gracie likely wandered past an open gate and simply kept going rather than turning back. The remote terrain in the area is rocky and unfenced, though Jones noted that a fence is now planned to prevent future escapes.
The Return Journey
Veterinarians will sedate Gracie before transport. A specialized trailer has been arranged to carry the giraffe safely back to her enclosure.
