A woman in Venezuela died while rescuing her young daughter during a series of powerful earthquakes that struck the country, according to footballer Héctor Bello and local media.
Bello, a Venezuelan footballer, posted on Instagram that his wife, identified by Venezuelan news outlets as Andrea, saved their toddler's life during two powerful quakes.
"The little one is fine, and I have to be strong for her," Bello wrote. "I'll tell her the story of how you saved her, my love - how you gave your own life for our daughter."
Rescuers are continuing to search for survivors after the twin quakes near Caracas killed at least 589 people and injured nearly 3,000.
Bello's daughter and her aunt are currently in hospital and are reported to be doing well.
A local football organization, Cumaná de Campeones, reported the death and confirmed that the daughter survived the ordeal. Univision also carried the report.
