Emergency services were called to the Our Lady of Consolation aged care home on Evans Road in Rooty Hill, Sydney, shortly after 11:30 pm on Thursday. Responding officers discovered the body of an 84-year-old woman at the facility.
A 53-year-old woman, identified as the deceased's daughter, was arrested at the scene. She was taken to Mount Druitt hospital for medical assessment and later transferred to a local police station.
Police have since released the 53-year-old woman without charge.
Investigation Details
According to Detective Superintendent Darrin Batchelor of Mount Druitt Police, police allege the 53-year-old woman administered an unknown substance to her mother. The substance has not been identified, and it is not yet known whether it contributed to the death.
"The 84-year-old woman had multiple medical conditions at the time of death."
The 53-year-old woman has no criminal history and no known medical training. She has been cooperating with police.
A nine-year-old boy was present at the scene and is now with family.
Forensic Examination
A crime scene has been established, and forensic evidence is being collected. Police are reviewing security footage and investigating why the daughter was at the facility late at night.
The cause and manner of death will be determined by the coroner through toxicology reports and autopsy. A report is being prepared for the coroner.
