Lenovo has announced plans to release a SteamOS version of its Legion Go 2 handheld gaming device. This announcement was made at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.
Release and Pricing
The SteamOS variant of the Legion Go 2 is scheduled for release in June, with a starting price of $1,199. The Windows version of this device launched in late October, predating the SteamOS version by approximately seven to eight months. The previous Legion Go S model saw its Windows version released three months ahead of its SteamOS counterpart.
Specifications and Features
The specifications for the SteamOS version are identical to those of the existing Windows model. The Legion Go 2 is equipped with an AMD Z2 Extreme processor. Key features include a variable-refresh-rate OLED screen and detachable, wireless controllers that resemble those of the Nintendo Switch. The device also functions as a tablet and incorporates an integrated kickstand. One of the controllers includes an integrated FPS mouse feature, which can be used with a snap-on puck for improved surface gliding.
Performance
Switching from a Windows operating system to SteamOS can result in a performance enhancement for the device. The AMD Z2 Extreme chip within the Legion Go 2 has been observed to perform differently compared to Intel's Lunar Lake offerings, with Lunar Lake providing higher performance in some specific gaming titles.
Software Compatibility
Users are able to install Bazzite OS on a Legion Go 2. This alternative operating system has demonstrated full functionality with the device, including support for the detachable controllers and RGB lighting.
