Motorola Unveils Razr Fold and Signature Flagship Devices

Motorola has officially introduced its first book-style foldable smartphone, the Razr Fold, alongside its non-folding flagship, the Motorola Signature. Initial announcements for the Razr Fold were made at CES 2026, with a comprehensive debut at MWC 2026.

The Razr Fold features a silicon-carbon battery, a five-camera system, and stylus support, while the Signature includes a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC and a triple 50-megapixel camera setup.

Product Announcements and Timeline

Motorola began building anticipation for its new foldable with an Instagram teaser video, hinting at "A new era is unfolding… See you in Vegas." This teaser coincided with Lenovo's Tech World presentation for CES 2026, held at the Las Vegas Sphere and livestreamed. Prior to official announcements, leaker Evan Blass provided early details on the purported Motorola book-style foldable, referred to as the Motorola Fold or Motorola Razr Fold, as well as a "Signature" flagship phone.

The Razr Fold, marking Motorola's entry into side-foldable devices, saw its initial announcement at CES 2026. Its full specifications and official debut were later presented at MWC 2026 in Barcelona on March 2. The device is scheduled for release later in the year, with an initial launch in Europe followed by availability in North America.

Design and Display

The Razr Fold boasts an impressive 8.1-inch foldable 2K (2,484 x 2,232) LTPO main display. This main screen offers a peak refresh rate of 120Hz and an outstanding peak brightness of 6200 nits. Both displays support Dolby Vision, promising a premium visual experience.

When open, the device is remarkably thin at just 4.6mm, expanding to 9.9mm when closed. Color options for the Razr Fold include Blackened Blue with a woven piqué design and Lily White with a satin finish.

Performance and Battery

Powering the Razr Fold is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, complemented by an integrated liquid-cooling system to ensure optimal performance. A significant innovation is its 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which Motorola highlights as the first of its type in a foldable sold in North America. The device supports rapid charging with 80W wired fast charging, compatible with Motorola’s TurboPower charger (sold separately), and also offers 50W wireless charging.

Cutting-Edge Camera System

The Razr Fold integrates a sophisticated five-camera system, designed for versatile photography:

  • External Selfie Camera: A 20-megapixel sensor with an f/2.4 lens.

The Razr Fold also supports video recording in Dolby Vision, enhancing its multimedia capabilities.

Stylus Support and Durability

The device offers productivity enhancements with support for the Moto Pen Ultra stylus. For durability, the Razr Fold boasts IP48 and IP49 ratings for dust and water protection, indicating robust resistance against environmental elements.

Software Support and Pricing

Motorola has committed to providing up to seven years of OS upgrades and security updates for the Razr Fold, promising long-term software support.

The Razr Fold will be priced at €1,999 (approximately $2,350) when bundled with the Moto Pen Ultra in Europe. North American availability is anticipated in the coming months, though specific pricing without the stylus or exact US dollar pricing has not yet been confirmed.
