Tragic Loss of Young Woman During Bachelorette Trip in St. Barts

Makenzi Kern, 26, died on June 8, 2023, while attending a bachelorette trip in St. Barts for Jade Jones, fiancée of Indiana Pacers player Tyrese Haliburton. The cause of death has not been publicly determined.

Background

Kern and Jones met while cheerleading at Iowa State University, where Haliburton also played basketball. Kern graduated from Iowa State in 2022 and worked as a Membership Director for a YMCA in Omaha.

Events

Kern died two days after celebrating her 26th birthday, while participating in the bachelorette trip. She had also attended pre-wedding events, including a bridal shower in Chicago.

Jones posted a tribute on Instagram, describing Kern as a close friend and her "biggest cheerleader."

Kern's family released an obituary stating she died "surrounded by her closest friends on a once in a lifetime trip to St. Barthelemy Island."

The family has stated they do not believe foul play, drugs, or alcohol contributed to her death.
