Sale Details
Lot 283: A weanling filly by Super Seth out of Zecora (NZ) (Power {GB})
Price: $62,500
Buyer: Pinhook Bloodstock International (FBAA), via Dave Mee
Vendor: Phoenix Broodmare Farm
Event: Day 2 of the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale
A Calculated Investment
Dave Mee secured the filly at a price point he considers "good value," particularly given the commercial standing of her sire, Super Seth. The purchase was driven by market sense rather than impulse.
"She's good value," Mee explained, "and she's by a sire in the top five or six by average in Australia at the moment."
The Sire: Super Seth
The filly hails from the fifth crop of Super Seth, a stallion who made a high-profile move to Coolmore Stud in Australia for the 2026 breeding season, standing at a fee of $137,500 (inc GST).
His yearlings averaged $161,481 in 2026, with a standout performer reaching $950,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
The Filly: 'Slight' but Athletic
While Super Seth's progeny are typically large and robust, this filly breaks the mould.
Mee described her as "slight," "elegant and athletic," with good movement—a departure from the typical physical type of her sire. "She's not a typical Super Seth," he noted. "She's quite light, a little bit feminine, but she's very athletic."
He expressed strong confidence in Phoenix Broodmare Farm, the vendor, praising their management of the filly.
Pedigree: A Winning Foundation
- The filly is the first foal out of Zecora, a Group 3 winner (J Swap Sprint Handicap) who won four races and placed second four times over distances up to 1400 metres.
- Zecora is out of C'Est La Vie (NZ), a full sister to Group 1 winner Imananabaa and Group-performed Ms Bowie.
- The extended family includes stakes performers Lakers Forest (by Magic Albert) and Our Absolute (by Niagara).
Future Plans
The filly is earmarked for resale after a period of maturation. The goal is to present her at either the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale or the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
"We'll take her home, spell her, give her a bit of time, and put her in a yearling sale," Mee confirmed. "She's a lovely filly."
