"Based on a revised calculation of the pit-lane distance, Gasly had not exceeded the 60 km/h speed limit."
The FIA has reinstated Pierre Gasly's third-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix following a successful "Right of Review" appeal by the Alpine team. The decision rescinded two five-second time penalties originally issued to Gasly for pit-lane speeding.
Penalty Reversal
During the race, Gasly was initially penalized for exceeding the pit-lane speed limit, receiving two five-second penalties. These penalties dropped him from third place to seventh at the checkered flag. Alpine requested a review hearing, presenting data to the stewards.
The stewards accepted Alpine's argument that, based on a revised calculation of the pit-lane distance, Gasly had not exceeded the 60 km/h speed limit.
Affected Drivers and Results
As a result of Gasly's reinstatement, other drivers' positions have shifted:
- Isack Hadjar loses his initial podium finish, moving from third to fourth place.
- Oscar Piastri and Racing Bulls drivers each move down one position.
Several other drivers, including Mercedes' George Russell and McLaren's Oscar Piastri, were also penalized for pit-lane speeding during the race. Russell received a drive-through penalty, which dropped him from third place at the time to 13th at the finish. Reports indicate that the teams of other penalized drivers did not formally object to the initial stewards' decisions, despite some believing their drivers had not exceeded the limit.
The updated results for the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix reflect Gasly's return to third place.
