Apple Discontinues AI Health Service, Redesigns Health App in iOS 27

Apple has discontinued development of an AI health service, which was canceled before the iOS 27 beta release. The service may be reconsidered in the future.

Design Changes

The Health app's Browse section has been redesigned with a card-style interface, replacing the previous list view. A single bottom navigation bar now includes a search/browse button, streamlining user navigation.

Visual Intelligence Nutrition Feature

Visual Intelligence includes a nutrition feature that analyzes food items via the Camera app's Siri mode. It provides feedback on processing level, protein content, and sugar content, but not exact calorie counts.

Food is given a nutritional value ranking from very low to very high. Data does not sync to the Health app. This feature requires iPhone 15 Pro or later.

Cycle Tracking

Cycle Tracking now supports perimenopause and menopause detection. The Health app sends notifications when logged cycle patterns suggest perimenopause, using long-term data for users aged 40 and above.

Users can log symptoms and access educational resources. New Fitness+ workouts for perimenopause and menopause have been added. Data synchronization speed has also been improved.

Child Safety

New Child Safety features provide parental controls over content, with guidance based on health research.

Route and Distance Accuracy

Route maps in the Fitness app are more accurate. Treadmill workout distance is now reflected more accurately.

Step Count

Step counts now sync between the Health and Fitness apps, ensuring consistency across both platforms.

GymKit

GymKit expands to iPhone, enabling pairing with exercise equipment for data syncing without an Apple Watch. Synced data includes calories, distance, speed, incline, and pace.

Availability

iOS 27 is available to developers, with a public beta planned for July, and a public release in fall.
