Performance Overview
Digital Foundry published a performance preview of the upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved remake, titled Halo: Campaign Evolved. The preview analyzed the game on Xbox Series X and various PC configurations.
Xbox Series X Performance
On Xbox Series X, the demo maintained 60 fps with ray tracing enabled. Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS) settled around 1080p. The console showed smoother performance compared to mid-range PC setups.
PC Performance
At 4K and max settings on an RTX 5090, frame rates held at 60 fps with a cap, with GPU utilization near 50%. A mid-range system (Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB DDR4, RTX 4060) experienced inconsistent fps at 1440p with DLSS Balanced mode. CPU throttling was observed during scenes with many enemies.
Handheld Performance
The ROG Ally X gaming handheld struggled to maintain 30 fps using TSR upscaling. The Steam Deck is expected to perform similarly.
Unreal Engine 5 Issues
The preview noted common Unreal Engine 5 drawbacks, including temporal noise and flickering, which affected image quality.
Release Date: The game is scheduled for release on July 28th.
