UFC Freedom 250: White House Hosts Historic SEAR 1 Event
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Freedom 250 event, scheduled for June 14, 2026, on the South Lawn of the White House, has been designated a Special Event Assessment Review 1 (SEAR 1) event by the Department of Homeland Security.
This classification—also applied to the Super Bowl, Indianapolis 500, and Kentucky Derby—places the event among the nation's most high-profile gatherings. The UFC Freedom 250 coincides with Flag Day and the 80th birthday of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Security Measures
The Secret Service, in partnership with U.S. Park Police, is providing security. Tara McLeese, special agent in charge of the Secret Service's Washington Field Office, stated that security will be comparable to Super Bowl levels.
- Entrance to the South Lawn is invitation-only for approximately 4,000 guests. A larger crowd is expected to watch on The Ellipse, outside the White House grounds.
- The UFC Fan Fest and Watch Party on The Ellipse is free but requires tickets, and attendees must pass through TSA-like screening. Large bags are discouraged.
- Federal law prohibits flying drones in the National Capital Region. Law enforcement drones will be used for overwatch; the public is asked to report any drones they see.
Broader Context
The Secret Service noted that the annual 4th of July fireworks display on the National Mall will, for the first time, be designated a National Special Security Event, with TSA-like screening required for entry. In previous years, visitors could arrive without passing through security checkpoints.
The Secret Service uniformed division and agents have been involved in three shootings in the past two months: an attempted breach at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, a shooting near the Washington Monument, and a shooting over Memorial Day weekend. McLeese stated that the workforce is training daily and is focused on readiness to respond to threats.
