Dog on Prohibited Beach Sparks Controversy in Sydney's Northern Beaches

A local resident has reported a dog off-leash on Station Beach, a protected area within Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park where canines are strictly forbidden.

The Incident

On Tuesday, a resident spotted a dog running off-leash on Station Beach in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The beach falls within the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, an area where dogs are prohibited. Owners caught violating the rule face fines of up to $330.

The resident took to Facebook to share the sighting, voicing concern for the local wallaby colony that inhabits the area.

Community Reaction

The post quickly divided opinion. Many residents disagreed with the blanket ban, arguing that dogs pose less of a threat to wildlife than humans do.

"People are far more disruptive to the animals than a well-behaved dog on a leash," one commenter wrote.

Others, however, supported the strict enforcement, stressing the need to protect native species in a fragile national park ecosystem.

Official Response

The Northern Beaches Council responded to the debate, stating that it enforces the regulations carefully. The goal, they explained, is to balance recreational use of the beach with wildlife protection.

"We take these matters seriously to ensure both residents and local fauna can coexist safely," a council spokesperson said.
