Telegram has released smartwatch apps for both Apple Watch and Wear OS, reviving support for Android smartwatches after discontinuing the Wear OS app five years ago.
Telegram is back on your wrist. The new smartwatch app provides full access to chats, voice messages, and media, bridging a five-year gap for Wear OS users.
On Wear OS, users can now mute, pin, and delete chats directly from their watch. On Apple Watch, the app goes a step further, offering location viewing and sticker sending — features planned for Wear OS in a future update.
Telegram's update notes describe the feature rollout in a humorous tone, noting that Android and iOS developers added different features and will "steal these features from each other" in a future update.
The app does not yet support viewing locations or sending stickers on Wear OS, but those capabilities are on the roadmap.
Background & Additional Updates
- Telegram previously had a Wear OS app before the Pixel Watch existed and when Galaxy Watch ran Tizen.
- The wider update also includes improvements to bot text formatting, links in poll options, markdown file support, and options to open links in external browsers.
