Samsung One UI 9 Beta Adds Network Speed Indicator via Good Lock Module

View source

Real-time network speed is finally coming to Samsung’s status bar, hidden inside a familiar customization suite.

Samsung's One UI 9 software update introduces a network speed indicator for the status bar, accessible through the updated QuickStar module within the Good Lock ecosystem. The feature is currently available in the beta version of the operating system, which is being rolled out to the Galaxy S26 series in select markets.

Feature Details

The network speed indicator displays real-time upload and download speeds adjacent to existing status bar icons. The readout units automatically adjust between KB/s, MB/s, and GB/s based on the volume of data traffic. The feature provides information about data transfer rates without replacing existing signal indicators.

Technical Implementation

The function is available through an update to the QuickStar module in Samsung's Good Lock customization suite. One UI 9 also introduces an "Ongoing Chip" option within the module that controls the Now Bar—a feature that displays live activities such as timers, calls, and voice recordings. Disabling this option turns off those activities.

Availability and Rollout

One UI 9 is currently in beta and is limited to the Galaxy S26 series in select markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, India, Poland, and South Korea. Samsung is expected to announce a rollout to older Galaxy flagship models in the coming months.

Background

Previous Samsung Galaxy devices did not include a built-in network speed meter. Users who wanted such a feature previously had to use third-party applications or methods requiring root access. Similar features have been available on many other Android devices for years.

Additional Updates in One UI 9

The update includes other new features, such as a revised call log in the Phone app, a more customizable quick panel, and enhancements to Samsung DeX.
