"Every rep in training, you have to treat it like it's a game... Just not being afraid to fail."

The Youngest Gun in the Series

Casey McLean will take the field for his second State of Origin appearance on Wednesday night. At just 20 years old, the Penrith Panthers centre is the youngest player in the series.

McLean made his Origin debut in Game I, stepping in for the injured Tolu Koula. Since becoming a starting centre for Penrith, he has scored 19 tries in just 29 NRL matches. His remarkable path to the big stage began early: at age 18, McLean scored four tries on his Test debut for New Zealand.

Roots and Rivalry

Growing up, McLean watched Origin religiously, naming Josh and Brett Morris as his favourite players. His brother, Jesse, currently plays for Penrith's NSW Cup side, keeping the family connection strong.

Earlier this season, McLean faced a personal challenge when Queensland centre Robert Toia scored a try against him. Despite that moment, Penrith won the match convincingly, 40-4.

Keeping the Smile

McLean admits he "has not stopped smiling for months," but relies on his family and friends to keep him grounded. His approach to training is intense and purposeful: "It comes down to training. Every rep in training, you have to treat it like it's a game... Just not being afraid to fail."

His teammate, Brian To'o, had high praise, calling McLean a "once in a lifetime player and person" and highlighting his communication and energy during training sessions.

Sharpening the Defense

McLean has focused heavily on his defensive game, knowing its critical importance in Origin. He specifically works on tracking angles and refining his tackle technique during training to meet the higher physical demands of the interstate clash.
