Framework Delays Laptop 13 Pro Shipments by One Month to Fix Touchpad and Display Issues
Framework has announced a delay of approximately one month for the first batch of its Framework Laptop 13 Pro. Originally slated for late June, shipments for the new Pro model are now expected to begin in late July, with some units potentially arriving in early August.
The company confirmed that the delay was triggered by two issues discovered during the final ramp-up to mass production: a grounding flaw in the haptic touchpad’s PCB design and a display initialization bug in the custom panel.
Both problems have been root caused and resolved. The fix includes a new PCB design for the touchpad and updated display firmware, now entering production.
Haptic Touchpad Issue
During development testing, Framework engineers identified a bug where the haptic touchpad would reset after repeated clicking. The root cause was traced to an electrical grounding issue within the PCB.
- A new PCB spin has been designed and initial samples confirm the fix is effective.
- The company is now running full validation tests, including a stress test of 200,000 sequential clicks.
Display Issue
A separate initialization bug was found during the mass production ramp. This edge case concerned specific initialization parameters in the custom display panel.
- CSOT, the display manufacturer, developed updated firmware to resolve the issue.
- The updated firmware is now entering production.
- Framework states that display panel delivery is expected to fit within the touchpad module schedule, meaning this issue will not cause any additional delay to laptop shipments.
Mitigation and Current Schedule
To minimize the overall impact, production of other sub-assemblies has already started. The new touchpad modules are expected to arrive at the final assembly factory by mid-July.
Key shipment updates:
- Pre-orders for the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Mainboard will ship on time in June.
- Pre-orders for the new display will now ship in July.
- Press reviews for the full laptop are scheduled for July.
"Customers can cancel pre-orders for a full refund if the new schedule does not work for them."
Additionally, customers who wish to adjust their pre-order to include LPCAMM2 memory can do so by contacting Support.
Background
Framework announced the Pro model with the stated goal of improving performance, refinement, and robustness. The company communicated the delay directly to customers, framing the extra time as necessary to ensure these quality targets are met before units ship.
