View source

24 Jump Street is officially in active development at Sony Pictures, with Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube in negotiations to reprise their roles.

The Creative Team

Rodney Rothman, who contributed to the script of 22 Jump Street, is attached to direct. He co-wrote the script with Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy.

Producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Neal H. Moritz are on board, with additional production partners for Hill and Tatum also involved.

Cast and Negotiations

  • Channing Tatum has been made a formal offer; negotiations are ongoing.
  • Jonah Hill and Ice Cube are also in discussions to return.
  • No other cast members have been confirmed.

The Title: A Running Gag Continues

The title "24 Jump Street" continues a franchise tradition established in the post-credits scene of 22 Jump Street, which featured a series of hypothetical sequel concepts. The film skips over "23 Jump Street" for reasons that have not been disclosed.

Franchise History

The Jump Street films are reboots of the 1987 television series:

  • "21 Jump Street" (2012) introduced Schmidt and Jenko (Hill and Tatum) as police officers going undercover in a high school.
  • "22 Jump Street" (2014) sent the duo to college and grossed $331 million worldwide.

A third film had been discussed for over a decade. Prior concepts included a crossover with the Men in Black franchise, but those plans were considered abandoned.

In 2024, Tatum publicly expressed enthusiasm for a third film and mentioned that a completed script existed.

Current Status

No plot details for 24 Jump Street have been disclosed. The project is in active development at Sony Pictures. Variety first reported the news.
