Four men have been charged following a series of attacks in Brisbane's western suburbs, where pedestrians were struck by metal objects fired from a moving vehicle.
Timeline of Incidents
According to police, the attacks occurred on multiple nights between May 27 and May 31:
- May 27: A 22-year-old woman was struck on the forehead in Paddington. A 36-year-old woman was struck on the hand in Toowong.
- May 31: A 53-year-old man was struck in the back in Toowong. A 64-year-old woman was struck in the jaw in St Lucia.
Police Interception and Seizures
Shortly after 11:00 PM on May 31, police intercepted a Hyundai i30 at Chapel Hill. Two men were detained at the scene, and during the interception, police allegedly located two handmade slingshots, two pocket-shot style devices, and a set of knuckle dusters.
Subsequent searches at addresses in Redbank Plains and Forest Lake allegedly uncovered property related to the assaults, as well as cannabis and drug utensils.
Charges and Court
Three men, aged 19, and one man, aged 20, have been charged with offences including:
- Assault occasioning bodily harm
- Serious assault of a person over 60
- Common assault
- Discharging a weapon in a public place
A 19-year-old man from Redbank Plains was remanded in custody. The other three individuals were granted bail. All four are scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court later in June.
Ongoing Investigation
Police stated that investigations are ongoing. Authorities have appealed for any members of the public who may have been struck by an object thrown from a vehicle in the areas of Paddington, Toowong, St Lucia, or Chapel Hill to come forward.
