iOS 27 & iPadOS 27: A Major Change to Notification Center
Starting with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, Apple has altered how users open Notification Center on iPhone and iPad when Siri AI is enabled.
Key Details
- Swiping down from the center of the top edge, which previously opened Notification Center, now invokes Siri AI.
- Notification Center can still be accessed by swiping down from the top-left corner when Siri AI is enabled.
- This change applies to both iPhone and iPad.
- On iPad, the area above Home screen app icons is largely assigned to Siri AI invocation, and the area for Notification Center may shrink if AM/PM or date display is disabled.

Background
Notification Center was introduced in iOS 5 (2011) as a central location for alerts. The last major change to accessing Notification Center occurred with iPhone X, when Control Center moved from a swipe-up gesture to a top-right corner swipe-down.
Reception
Early user feedback on the new Siri AI system has been described as overwhelmingly positive.
