Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Stabbing Outside Melbourne Pub
Zac Swettenham, 37, the son of former boxing champion Barry Michael, has been charged with murder following a fatal altercation outside a pub in Footscray, Melbourne.
The incident occurred on Sunday night at the Courthouse Hotel on Nicholson Street, where a fight reportedly broke out inside before spilling onto the street.
Police believe the parties were known to each other and are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
The Incident
A 25-year-old man from South Yarra was found with stab wounds in a nearby alleyway and died at the scene. The confrontation began inside the Courthouse Hotel before escalating onto the street.
Arrest and Court Appearance
Swettenham was arrested at Yarraville train station on Monday evening without incident and interviewed by homicide detectives. He appeared in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday wearing a forensic suit.
Magistrate Brett Sonnet noted that Swettenham has medical diagnoses of psychosis, schizophrenia, and akathisia, and that he identifies as Aboriginal.
Bail and Next Hearing
The magistrate stated the court has no jurisdiction to grant bail on a murder charge and remanded Swettenham to return to court on October 13.
