📱 Instagram Finally Lets You Rearrange Your Profile Grid
The social media platform has introduced a long-awaited feature, allowing users to manually rearrange posts on their profile grid.
The update is rolling out via the Android and iPhone mobile apps.
Feature Details
Users can long-press and drag posts to any position on their profile grid, regardless of the post's original date. This marks a significant shift from the previous system where posts were displayed in strict chronological order.
Three previously pinned posts will remain fixed at the top of the grid during the rearrangement process. In the reorder window, pinned posts are blacked out.
After rearranging, users can simply tap the back chevron to apply the changes.
Availability
According to Instagram's Threads account, the feature is available starting the week of June 8th. However, not all users may have access immediately, as the rollout is gradual.
Background
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the feature in January 2023. In a separate announcement of the rollout, Mosseri posted the word "Finally" on Instagram.
Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi discovered an "edit grid" option in the app as early as 2022.
Meta stated, "We know this is long overdue, but we wanted to take the time to get it right."
Prior to this update, posts were displayed in chronological order, with only three posts able to be pinned.
User Response
While many users have welcomed the change, some have noted that they have been waiting for other features for an even longer period than the profile grid rearrangement.
