"The unfamiliar quickly became familiar," Molly Hunt reflects on her first overseas journey.

A Transformative First Journey

Molly Hunt, a Balanggarra and Yolngu artist from the Kimberley region of Australia, recently undertook her first trip overseas at the age of 30, traveling to Gothenburg, Sweden.

  • Invited to Exhibit: Hunt was invited by The Museum of World Culture to contribute to the "Dreams and Power" exhibition.
  • Creative Contribution: For the exhibition, she created a comic format telling the Yolngu Dreaming story "Darrpa-King Brown."
  • Cultural Immersion: Her experience also included plunging into an ice hole in a frozen lake, followed by a sauna.

Overcoming Obstacles

Hunt had previously prioritized work and cited obstacles such as work commitments, money, timing, and fear of how the world would perceive her. A work opportunity, combined with a personal separation, ultimately motivated her to travel.

Reflections on Connection

Describing the experience as transformative, Hunt noted that people worldwide share kindness and connection. She observed that unfamiliar surroundings quickly became familiar, underscoring the universal nature of human empathy.
