The St George Illawarra Dragons have announced the signing of Keaon Koloamatangi on a five-year contract, securing him until the end of the 2031 season. Koloamatangi, a forward, will join the club from South Sydney.
Player Profile
Koloamatangi has represented NSW Blues, Tonga, and Australia during his career. He has participated in 126 NRL games over six seasons, which includes an appearance in the 2021 Grand Final.
Player's Statement
Koloamatangi commented on his decision to join the Dragons:
"I’m excited to be joining the Dragons. The club’s ambition really impressed me. I’ve been watching the squad they’re building and the young forwards coming through, and I want to be part of driving that next era. I’ve loved my time at Souths, but I am looking forward to bringing my experience, my standards and everything I’ve got to the Red V."
Club Management Remarks
Dragons CEO Tim Watsford addressed the signing:
"This is a transformative moment for our club and our future. Keaon is a forward in the NRL and a leader. He’s someone who drives standards every single day. He had significant interest elsewhere, so the fact that he chose to join the Dragons – and commit for five years – indicates the club's direction. We have a group of young forwards coming through our system, and bringing in a leader of Keaon’s calibre to work with them is important for us."
Head Coach Shane Flanagan also provided a statement:
"We have always wanted to bring representative players to The Dragons and Keaon is a team member we have been looking for. Pairing him with the young pack we have coming through will be beneficial for our members and fans."
Koloamatangi is scheduled to commence his tenure with the Dragons ahead of the 2027 preseason.
