Bus Crash on Joondalup Drive Leaves Woman Critically Injured

A 59-year-old woman is in a critical condition after a Transperth bus crashed into a tree on Joondalup Drive in Perth's north on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred just after 11am for reasons yet to be determined.

The Incident

Police report the bus was traveling west on Joondalup Drive when the driver lost control and collided with a large tree. The front of the bus sustained significant damage in the crash.

Injuries

  • A 59-year-old female passenger was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries.
  • A 61-year-old male passenger was taken to Joondalup Health Campus with serious injuries.
  • Five other occupants sustained minor injuries.
  • The 56-year-old male bus driver was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for medical treatment.

Investigation Ongoing

Police and forensics officers remained at the scene on Thursday afternoon investigating the cause of the crash.

Joondalup Drive between Burns Beach Road and Wanneroo Road was closed, with motorists advised to avoid the area.

Witness Account

Motorist Tia Anderson described the scene as 'horrific' , reporting she saw the bus swerve into the opposite lane before hitting the tree. She stated that people were terrified.

Separate Incident: Car Hits Hospital

Earlier on Thursday, a car crashed into St John of God Hospital in Murdoch, in Perth's south, forcing the closure of the emergency department.

Just after 10am, a grey Nissan Tiida sedan hit a 73-year-old male pedestrian before striking the outside wall of a treatment ward.

  • The pedestrian was taken to Royal Perth Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
  • The 83-year-old male driver sustained minor injuries.
  • No one inside the ward was injured.
