Samsung Digital Health Team Readies Next-Generation Smart Ring

Samsung's digital health team, led by Hon Pak, is developing a next-generation smart ring. The device, referred to as Galaxy Ring 2 for convenience, has not been officially named, and details on launch timing, price, regions, or specifications are not yet announced.

A New Era for Continuous Health Monitoring

Samsung is aiming to shift its wearable strategy from simple data tracking to long-term health analysis. The device is being designed for continuous health monitoring, establishing personal baselines for users over time and flagging significant changes.

To achieve this, an upcoming Samsung Health tool will analyze seven nights of sleep data—including heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen—to establish a user's individual norm. This baseline approach is intended to increase the accuracy and relevance of health alerts.

Heart Health Score and AI Coaching

A major component of the new system will be a Heart Health Score that links sleep, nutrition, activity, and stress to cardiovascular risk. This integrated metric aims to provide users with a clearer picture of their overall heart health.

Samsung's strategy relies heavily on its software. The ring's effectiveness is expected to rely on Samsung Health's software to convert sensor data into actionable advice.

Looking further ahead, Pak described a future AI coaching system that adapts to the user's timing, tone, and motivation style. This suggests a move toward highly personalized health guidance, rather than generic recommendations.

Current Limitations and Future Expansion

The current Galaxy Ring is compatible only with Samsung Android devices. In a hint of broader ambitions, Pak hinted at future announcements regarding product line expansion, potentially opening the ring up to a wider range of users and platforms in the future.
