Rising Star: Lucas Herrington on the Cusp of World Cup History

A Rapid Rise from Brisbane to Colorado

At just 18 years old, defender Lucas Herrington has secured a place in Australia’s 26-man World Cup squad. The Colorado Rapids player made his professional debut for Brisbane Roar in December 2024 before transferring to MLS in January 2025.

"He fits seamlessly into the team environment." – Teammate Jason Geria

World Cup Potential

Australia’s first World Cup match is against Türkiye on June 13, 2025. If Herrington takes the pitch, he could become the youngest player to ever start for the Socceroos in a World Cup match.

Herrington has already started Australia’s last three friendlies, including a high-profile match against Mexico at the Rose Bowl in front of nearly 80,000 spectators.

Focus on the Present

Despite growing international attention, Herrington remains grounded. He stated he is focused solely on Colorado and the World Cup and is not considering a move to Europe.

Teammate Jason Geria praised the young defender, describing him as "a quick learner who fits seamlessly into the team environment."
