After 18 Months of Treatment, a Brain Tumour Survivor Launches a Nutrition Business
Erica Brooks, 42, received a life-altering diagnosis of a Grade 3 brain tumour in October 2024. After completing an intensive 18-month treatment regimen, she is now turning her focus toward launching a new nutrition venture.
"I'm going to be OK." – Erica Brooks, on her decision to maintain a positive outlook following her diagnosis.
The journey began with seemingly mild symptoms: dizziness, brain fog, and neck pain. Initially attributed to low blood pressure or perimenopause, these symptoms led Brooks, who had no prior health issues, to an unexpected diagnosis while finishing a degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition.
A Rigorous Treatment and Remarkable Resilience
Brooks underwent a craniotomy, followed by radiation and chemotherapy. The tumour was fully removed with no resulting brain damage—a remarkable outcome. Her oncologist expressed surprise at how well she tolerated the PCV chemotherapy regimen.
In a striking testament to her determination, Brooks completed her final university exam and lab report just one week after brain surgery.
Protecting Her Children from the Diagnosis
Brooks made a conscious choice to shield her children from the full weight of the diagnosis. Instead of using the words "cancer" or "tumour," she referred to it as a "mass in my brain."
A New Chapter: BellaPure Pty Ltd
Now that her treatment is complete, Brooks is planning to launch BellaPure Pty Ltd, a nutrition business. She attributes her resilience to perspective and focuses on controlling her health through diet and exercise.
Ongoing Vigilance
Brooks continues with regular MRI scans every three months. While she reports occasional anxiety before receiving results, she views the scans as a blessing that provides reassurance and peace of mind.
