Caleb Williams Named Cover Athlete for Madden NFL 27
EA Sports has officially announced that Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will appear on the standard cover of Madden NFL 27.
"I aimed to pay respect to MJ."
— Caleb Williams, on his cover pose
The cover image features Williams in a throwing pose against a backdrop of the Chicago skyline. Williams stated the pose was intentionally designed to reference a 1985 poster from Michael Jordan's Air Jordan campaign. He also noted that a meeting with Jordan is "in the works."
Cover Design Details
Standard Edition
The standard cover depicts Williams throwing a jump pass—a pose that mirrors a touchdown pass he made during a playoff win over the Green Bay Packers.
Deluxe Edition
The deluxe edition cover features Williams in a white road jersey with snowflakes, an element that references his "Iceman" nickname.
Background
Williams previously admitted he did not know that former NBA player George Gervin was the original "Iceman."
He now joins an elite list of NFL players who have appeared on Madden covers, including Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and Lamar Jackson.
When asked about the so-called "Madden Curse"—a phenomenon some players believe affects cover athletes—Williams expressed confidence that he would not be affected.
