Los Angeles Court Grants Sabrina Carpenter Restraining Order Against Alleged Stalker

View source

A Los Angeles County court has issued a temporary civil harassment restraining order against a man who, according to court filings, repeatedly attempted to approach pop singer Sabrina Carpenter at her Hollywood Hills residence.

Order Details

The temporary order, granted on June 1, prohibits William Applegate, 31, from approaching within 100 yards of Carpenter’s home. The residence is shared by Carpenter, her sister, and her sister’s partner. A follow-up court hearing is scheduled for June 17.

Incident Timeline

According to court documents filed by Carpenter on May 29, Applegate approached her front door on May 23 and attempted to force it open. Ring camera footage reviewed by law enforcement shows a man attempting to open the door, after which a security guard confronted him.

The guard ordered Applegate to leave, but he refused, stating that the singer was expecting him. Police arrested Applegate on suspicion of misdemeanor trespassing.

Carpenter stated in her declaration that Applegate returned to the neighborhood on May 25, two days after the initial incident.

An investigation revealed that Applegate had been parking in the neighborhood since April 20, choosing spots progressively closer to Carpenter’s residence.

Legal Statements

In her signed declaration, Carpenter wrote:

"His pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance has caused me severe and ongoing emotional distress. I am in fear [of] what he may do if he is not restrained by this Court."

Detective Peter Doomanis of the Los Angeles Police Department stated that Applegate’s "pattern of conduct... reflects the hallmarks of a fixated, obsessional individual." He described the behavior as "consistent with well-documented patterns of stalking behavior that pose a serious and escalating risk [to] victim safety."

Criminal Proceedings

A criminal court hearing regarding Applegate’s trespassing arrest is scheduled for June 18.
