Georges St-Pierre Reveals the Three Conditions That Killed the Anderson Silva Superfight

Georges St-Pierre stated that the UFC approached him regarding a potential superfight with Anderson Silva, but negotiations did not progress beyond a single discussion.

In an interview with Demetrious Johnson, St-Pierre said he was asked once by Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta about moving up from welterweight to face Silva. St-Pierre outlined three conditions for the fight:

1. Compensation
He requested improved pay, citing the need to change his training regimen and gain weight.

2. Catchweight
He proposed the fight at a catchweight, noting Silva had previously competed at 170 pounds in PRIDE, though he acknowledged Silva might not have been able to cut to that weight later in his career.

3. Drug Testing
He demanded implementation of drug testing for the bout.

According to St-Pierre, the UFC never followed up on these requests. St-Pierre believes his demands were reasonable and not intended to price himself out of the fight.

Background

St-Pierre and Silva are widely regarded as the greatest fighters in their respective divisions (welterweight and middleweight). The proposed superfight was a highly anticipated matchup between two dominant champions.
