Victoria's Secret & Co. Surges After Beating Estimates, Raising Guidance

The company posted net sales of $1.56 billion for the quarter ending May 2, exceeding analyst expectations and prompting a rare single-day stock surge of 47%.

For the quarter ending May 2, Victoria's Secret & Co. reported net sales of $1.56 billion, surpassing analyst estimates. Comparable sales also exceeded forecasts, leading the company to raise its annual net sales guidance to a maximum of $7.13 billion—up from a previous high of $6.95 billion. Second-quarter sales guidance also came in above analyst expectations.

Market Reaction

The company's stock rose 47% on the day of the announcement, marking a record single-day gain. Approximately 19% of tradeable shares are currently shorted, a factor that may contribute to stock price volatility. Over the past 12 months, the company's shares have increased by roughly 160%.

Business Developments

CEO Hillary Super stated that the company's bras have gained market share among consumers aged 18 to 44.

The strongest growth was reported in income categories under $50,000 and over $200,000. Executives also noted higher sales of non-discounted merchandise during the quarter.

The company recently changed its stock ticker symbol to VSXY as part of a repositioning strategy. Victoria's Secret has now posted four consecutive quarters of annual revenue growth.

Investor Activity

Billionaire Brett Blundy's investment firm BBRC International has urged shareholders to vote against board chair Donna James at the upcoming annual meeting, citing poor management oversight. The shareholder vote is scheduled for June 11.

Activist investor Barington Capital, which previously advocated for changes at the company, has since divested its holdings.

Analyst Commentary

Jefferies analyst Corey Tarlowe described the results as indicating a "clear inflection in the business," stating that the company is retaining core customers while attracting new ones.
