Tragedy in Muscatine: Six Killed in Domestic Shooting Spree
Authorities in Muscatine, Iowa, are investigating the fatal shootings of six individuals. The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland, died by suicide while being confronted by police on Monday.
The Incident
Preliminary findings indicate a domestic dispute led to the shootings. The suspect is believed to be a relative of all victims.
Four victims were found deceased at a residence. Two additional victims were found elsewhere in the city: one at his home and one inside a business.
Victims
Two victims were students in the Muscatine Community School District, and two were district employees, according to Superintendent Chris Christopher. Authorities have not released the names of the victims or additional details about them.
The Suspect
Police located Ryan Willis McFarland on a trail in the city. Police Chief Anthony Kies stated, "While talking to Ryan Willis McFarland, he took his own life." Kies also stated that McFarland had a criminal record but provided no further details.
Investigation
The Muscatine Police Department is processing crime scenes and conducting interviews. Anyone with information is asked to contact the major crimes unit.
