"The package is a win for pet owners, and grants and subsidies have helped ease pressure on the system." — Minister Gavin Pearce

HOBART, TASMANIA — The Tasmanian Government has unveiled a new $400,000 Veterinary Attraction and Retention Package aimed at bolstering the state's veterinary workforce.

The package is designed to reduce pressure on clinics and improve appointment availability for pet owners. Key components include direct financial support for experienced vets and incentives for the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Eight grants have been provided to experienced Tasmanian vets who committed to remaining in the profession and increased their average working hours. Additionally, 19 subsidies were delivered to graduating vet students from across the country to complete placements in Tasmania.

Support is also available for vets with child and family care needs, as well as for final-year vet students completing their placements in the state. A workforce training program is planned for later this year to further strengthen the sector.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, emphasized that the grants and subsidies have already helped ease system-wide pressure.
