Underwater Discovery of Unreleased Google Pixel Watch Sparks Online Buzz

A scuba diver discovered an unreleased Google Pixel Watch underwater near the island of St. Martin. The watch was brought to public attention after images were posted on social media by Randy Pitchford, creator of the "Borderlands" video game series. The device was subsequently returned to its owner.

Discovery and Condition

According to posts on X (formerly Twitter) by Randy Pitchford on May 31, 2026, a friend of Pitchford found the watch while scuba diving near Saint Martin. Images posted by Pitchford show the back of the device, which bears markings identifying it as a "Google Pixel 5," a model that has not been publicly released. Pitchford reported that the watch's battery was dead but had enough reserve power to display the correct time.

Return of Device

Pitchford later posted an update stating that he had made contact with the owner of the watch and arranged for its return.

Context and Industry Response

Google did not respond to a request for comment from The Verge regarding the incident. Specific details about the upcoming Pixel Watch, including technical specifications, remain limited. Prior to this event, some reports suggested that a future model of the Pixel Watch might include Google's Tensor processor.

This incident is similar to a 2022 leak of the first-generation Pixel Watch, in which images and information were posted on Reddit by a user who reported that a bartender friend had found the device at a restaurant.
