Giants Sign Trio of Receivers: Beckham, Smith-Schuster, Berrios Join New York
The New York Giants signed wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios to one-year contracts on June 1, 2026. All three players worked out for the team earlier that day.
Beckham Returns to Familiar Ground
Odell Beckham Jr. — originally a first-round draft pick by the Giants in 2014 — is making a return to the franchise where he began his career.
Beckham was named offensive rookie of the year after recording 91 receptions in his first season. He followed that by recording 197 catches over the next two seasons.
His tenure in New York was marred by a fractured ankle that cost him most of the 2017 season. After signing a contract extension, he recorded 77 catches in 2018 before being traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019.
Beckham went on to play for the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Miami Dolphins.
He won Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams following the 2021 season.
He did not play during the 2024 season. Beckham played nine games for Miami in 2024 and was unsigned in 2025 due to a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
He previously played for Giants head coach John Harbaugh when Harbaugh coached the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. Beckham worked out for the Giants on two occasions this offseason.
Smith-Schuster Brings Championship Pedigree
JuJu Smith-Schuster spent the previous two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and won Super Bowl LVII with them in 2022.
Berrios: A Proven Return Specialist
Braxton Berrios, a return specialist who last played for the Houston Texans in 2025, was named a first-team All-Pro returner for the New York Jets in 2021.
Signings Address Critical Depth Issues
The three new additions come in response to injuries to Giants receivers Malik Nabers (ACL recovery), Darius Slayton (core muscle surgery), and Gunner Olszewski (Achilles).
Coach Harbaugh's Perspective
Giants coach John Harbaugh offered measured comments on Beckham's return and Nabers' recovery timeline.
Regarding Beckham: "It's got to be right for both parties. ... Is his body going to hold up in the way he wants it to, and all those things are questions that need to get answered for anybody at that age."
Regarding Nabers' return timeline: "The goal is to start the season and get out there sometime in training camp. ... We'll be ready to go either way."
