Iran's Supreme Leader Launches Counteroffensive Against Trump's Abraham Accords Expansion
An analyst reported Sunday that Iran's supreme leader has initiated a counteroffensive against US President Donald Trump, attempting to rally Middle Eastern nations into an anti-American alliance.
This development comes in response to Trump's proposal to expand the Abraham Accords to Gulf states, several of which maintain backchannels with Iran. Negotiations between Iran and the US are reportedly ongoing, with Trump not yet signing off on a potential peace agreement.
Key Developments
On May 26, Mojtaba Khamenei posted on X, inviting all Islamic countries to "friendship and cooperation" to advance the Islamic Ummah and resolve problems of the Islamic world, under the banner of a "New Islamic Civilization."
He stated that "the United States will no longer have a safe haven for its mischief and for establishing military bases in West Asia."
The Abraham Accords Expansion
Trump held a phone call with leaders from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain to discuss expanding the 2020 Abraham Accords.
The analyst described Tehran as seeking to position itself as the region's "new sheriff" while forcing Gulf states to choose between Washington's security umbrella and a "New Islamic Civilization."
