Iran International Report: President Pezeshkian Seeks to Resign
Unconfirmed reports claim President Masoud Pezeshkian has sent a letter to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei requesting to step down, citing frustration over the IRGC's control of government affairs amid the US-Iran conflict.
Tehran – Unconfirmed reports from Iranian opposition outlet Iran International allege that President Masoud Pezeshkian has sent a letter to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei formally requesting his resignation.
According to the report, Pezeshkian expressed frustration that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has taken control of government affairs amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict, leaving the president and his administration excluded from major decision-making processes. The outlet cited an anonymous source claiming Pezeshkian requested to step down immediately.
Similar reports have appeared in Israeli and US media outlets.
Meanwhile, Iranian state outlet Tasnim News Agency has disputed the claims, stating that the president continues his duties as normal.
The Supreme Leader has not been seen publicly since his father's death in a US-Israeli strike. Reports suggest he may reject the resignation request.
