Warner Bros. Announces Title for Minecraft Sequel and Fan Build Contest

Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group has officially announced that the sequel to the 2025 Minecraft film will be titled A Minecraft Movie: Squared.

The revelation was made ahead of Michael De Luca's appearance at the Produced By conference, confirming the project is a joint production with Legendary Entertainment. Jared Hess is set to direct the sequel, which will feature a returning cast including Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry, Jennifer Coolidge, and Kirsten Dunst. The first Minecraft movie grossed close to $1 billion worldwide.

Fan Contest: The Minecraft Movie Build Challenge

Warner Bros. has launched a contest allowing fans to submit builds for a chance to appear in the film or its end credits.

  • The Builder Cape, a promotional item, will be available from June 14 on TikTok, Minecraft, and Twitch.
  • The contest is open to individuals aged 16 and older.
  • Sponsored by Microsoft, the contest ends on July 6.

Release Date

A Minecraft Movie: Squared is scheduled for release on July 23, 2027.

The studio noted that distribution responsibilities may change if the planned merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery is completed.
