Activision Phases Out Call of Duty: Warzone on Last-Gen Consoles
Activision has announced plans to discontinue support for Call of Duty: Warzone on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. The phase-out will occur in stages beginning in June 2024 and concluding later in 2026. Players on those platforms will need to upgrade to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S to continue playing after the support ends.
Key Dates
June 2024/2026: Warzone will be removed from the PS4 and Xbox One digital storefronts. Purchases made using local currency will be removed from the in-game store and menus.
June 25, 2024/2026: The in-game store will be removed on PS4 and Xbox One. Players can redeem Call of Duty (COD) Points until this date.
Later in 2026: Official support for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will end. The game will become unplayable on these consoles once Season 1 of a future Call of Duty title begins.
Player Experience During Phase-Out
- Existing players who have Warzone in their library can still install and play the game until the end of Season 6 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
- Free Battle Pass tiers will remain available while support continues.
Content and Progression Transfer
Players upgrading to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S can transfer their progression and most purchased content by using the same Activision account. Transfers include:
- Remaining COD Points.
- Battle Pass progression.
- Unlocked content.
- Most local currency purchases.
Context
The announcement coincides with the reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for current-generation consoles and the Nintendo Switch 2. This title will be the first Call of Duty on Nintendo Switch 2, following a 10-year agreement between Microsoft and Nintendo as part of Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
As of the announcement, both the PS5 and Xbox Series X are priced $150 above their original $499 launch price.
