YouTube Rolls Out New Features to Enhance Podcast Listening Experience
YouTube is introducing a suite of new features designed specifically for podcast listeners, focusing on improved playback control, dynamic speed adjustment, and expanded discovery options.
"On-the-go mode" transforms the interface into an audio-first layout, prioritizing playback controls over video.
Audio-First Mode for On-the-Go Listening
A new "on-the-go mode" shifts the interface to an audio-first layout. This mode features larger playback buttons, replaces the video with a still image, and displays a timeline of video chapters. Users can activate this feature from a video's settings menu, and YouTube may prompt users to enable it if it detects movement while watching.
Intelligent Playback Speed Adjustment
An auto speed feature automatically adjusts playback speed based on the video's content. Users set a minimum speed; the system increases speed during slower segments and returns to the baseline afterward. This allows for a more consistent listening tempo without manual adjustments.
Expanded Discovery via AI Search
YouTube is expanding its Ask Music AI search feature to include podcasts within the YouTube Music app. This allows users to request recommendations via chatbot prompts based on genre, activity, or creator. (Spotify began offering similar functionality earlier this year.)
