Spotify Rolls Out Major Mobile App Update with Playlist Folders, Bulk Editing, and Offline Upgrades

The updates are being rolled out globally to mobile users, bringing four key changes to playlist management, queue control, and offline listening.

Playlist Folders Now on Mobile

Playlist folders have been added to the iPhone and Android mobile applications. This feature was previously only available on the desktop version of the platform. Users can create and manage folders via the "+" menu.

Queue and Playlist Controls Enhanced

Users can now perform bulk actions on playlists, including editing and reorganizing multiple tracks simultaneously. Multi-track selection, which allows users to remove multiple songs from playlists or the queue at once, is available to all users.

New Reshuffle Button in Queue

A "Reshuffle" button has been added to the queue. This allows users to reorder the queue with a single tap, without needing to toggle the shuffle function off and on.

Background Downloads for iOS Premium Subscribers

Premium subscribers on iOS devices now receive support for background downloads. This feature allows downloads to continue when the Spotify app is closed and includes progress notifications.

Platform and Subscription Availability

The availability of specific features varies by platform and subscription tier:

  • Playlist folders, the reshuffle button, and background downloads on iOS are exclusive to Premium subscribers.

  • Multi-track selection for bulk editing is available to all users, including ad-supported accounts.

  • The updates are rolling out on both iPhone and Android devices.
