Oura Ring 5 Announced: Smaller, Smarter, and Pricier than Ever

Oura has announced the Oura Ring 5, a fifth-generation smart ring that is 40% smaller in volume than its predecessor, the Ring 4. The new device features redesigned sensors for improved accuracy, enhanced battery life, and a suite of new software-driven health monitoring features. Pre-orders begin immediately, with shipping scheduled for June 4.

Design and Physical Specifications

The Ring 5 is the smallest model Oura has produced. Key physical specifications include:

  • Dimensions: 6.09 mm wide and 2.28 mm thick, reduced from 7.9–7.99 mm and 2.88 mm on the Ring 4.
  • Weight: 2 to 2.69 grams, depending on size, down from 3.3 to 5.2 grams on the Ring 4.
  • Sizes: Available in sizes 6 to 13. (Sizes 4, 5, 14, and 15 are no longer offered.)
  • Finishes: Six finishes are available: Silver, Brushed Silver, Black, Stealth, Gold, and Deep Rose.
  • Durability: Oura states the ring features a new physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating for improved scratch resistance. Water resistance is rated up to 100 meters with IP68 certification.

The company advises customers to use a sizing chart before selecting a size, even for returning users.

Sensor and Battery Technology

Oura redesigned the internal architecture of the ring to achieve the smaller form factor. Sensor changes include:

  • Optical Sensors: The number of optical signal pathways has been reduced from 18 to 12, accompanied by more powerful LEDs and a larger photodiode for improved skin contact.
  • Accuracy Improvements: Oura reports that overnight heart rate variability (HRV) accuracy has improved by 12%, and heart rate accuracy during workouts has improved by up to 19% compared to the Ring 4.

Battery Life: Oura reports a battery life of 6 to 9 days, up from an estimated 5 to 8 days on the Ring 4. An optional charging case is available separately, which eliminates the need for a separate charging puck during travel.

Software and Health Features

The Ring 5 launches with several new software-based health monitoring features. Oura states that some of these features will also be available on the Oura Ring Gen 3 and later devices via a software update starting in June 2026.

  • Health Radar: A feature that continuously monitors biometric signals in the background to identify patterns that may indicate health issues. It is an expansion of the previous "Symptom Radar" feature.
  • Blood Pressure Signals: Tracks changes in blood pressure behavior during sleep, specifically the natural overnight decline, to assess cardiovascular strain.
  • Nighttime Breathing: Provides a 30-day rolling view of sleep-related breathing patterns and disturbances to assess their impact on sleep quality and recovery.
  • On-Demand Care & Health Data Import: A partnership with Counsel Health offers AI-assisted physician access in the US for an additional fee. Users can also import clinical data, including diagnosed conditions, medications, lab results, and allergies.
  • Activity and Lifestyle Tracking: New features include live activity tracking for running and cycling (pace, distance), updated automatic activity detection for low-motion activities, and GLP-1 medication journey tracking.
  • Brain Health Study: Eligible members can enroll in an in-app study that matches cognitive tasks with their physiological trends.

Pricing and Availability

The Oura Ring 5 is available for pre-order starting today, with shipping beginning on June 4.

  • Price: $399 for Black and Silver finishes; $499 for Gold, Stealth, Brushed Silver, and Deep Rose finishes.
  • Monthly Membership: A subscription is required for advanced features, priced at $5.99 per month or $69.99 annually.
  • Price Comparison: The starting price of $399 is an increase from the Ring 4, which started at $349.

Market Context

Oura faces increased competition from other smart ring manufacturers, including RingConn and Ultrahuman, which offer subscription-free devices. The Ring 5 announcement predates the shipping of the RingConn Gen 3.
