Jed Daniel Gordon, 45, has been sentenced in Byron Bay Local Court for sexual intercourse with a minor.

Byron Bay, Australia — A former merchandise manager for the metalcore band Parkway Drive has avoided a prison sentence after pleading guilty to having sex with a 15-year-old girl more than two decades ago.

The Sentencing

Jed Daniel Gordon, 45, received a three-year community corrections order and was ordered to complete 300 hours of community service. The sentence was handed down in Byron Bay Local Court after Gordon pleaded guilty in March to one count of sexual intercourse with a person 14 or over and under 16 years of age.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison under New South Wales law.

"The harm of sexual abuse on children was judged by today's community standards." — Judge Geoffrey Dunlevy

The Offenses

The incidents took place between November 1, 2002, and July 11, 2003. At the time, Gordon was in his early 20s, and the victim was 15 years old.

According to court documents, Gordon initiated contact via text message. The sexual acts occurred in his vehicle at Tallow Beach, Byron Bay. The pair met on several occasions, with Gordon initiating contact by text.

In a notable detail from the case, after a condom broke in April 2003, Gordon drove the victim to a hospital to obtain emergency contraception.

Victim Impact

A victim impact statement read in court detailed the lasting trauma caused by the abuse. The victim described ongoing difficulties in relationships and self-care.

Judge Geoffrey Dunlevy noted that while Gordon had demonstrated "significant insight" and remorse, the victim's statement showed the profound and lasting trauma of the experience.

Defense and Remorse

Gordon's lawyer, John Waller, described his client as a young man who "entered criminality without thinking properly" and is now a "different person."

In a recorded telephone call from June 2025, Gordon acknowledged his actions, stating: "I didn't know what I was doing I was just a fin' surf dude."*

Consequences

The sentence includes a two-year apprehended domestic violence order and placement on the child protection register.

Gordon has lost two jobs as a result of the court proceedings and is currently unemployed.

Background

Gordon had toured regularly with Parkway Drive and was described as the band's "sixth member." Following the charges, the band terminated his employment and described the matter as "heartbreaking on a very human scale."
