A24 is poised for a record-breaking weekend. Backrooms is projected to open with $40-45 million domestically, which would be the highest opening for an A24 film, surpassing Civil War ($25.5M).

The race for #1 will be extremely tight. The Mandalorian and Grogu (Disney/Lucasfilm) is expected to decline nearly 60% to around $40 million, putting it in a near dead heat with the newcomer.

In its third weekend, Obsession (Focus Features) is estimated to earn $13 million, reflecting a 45% drop from the previous week.

New Wide Releases

  • The Breadwinner (Sony) is projected to open with $8-10 million at 3,300 locations.

  • Pressure (Focus Features) is looking at mid-single digits at 1,825 theaters.

Limited Release

  • Power Ballad (Lionsgate) opens this weekend in 10 locations.
