CD Projekt Red has announced "Songs of the Past," a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with a planned release in 2027. The announcement was made during a livestream commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Blood and Wine expansion. It is co-developed with Polish studio Fool's Theory.

Key Details

  • The expansion is a standalone story set after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its expansions Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. It is being developed in collaboration with Polish developer Fool's Theory, known for The Thaumaturge and Seven: The Days Long Gone.
  • It is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC. The story features the character Geralt, not Ciri. The specific time period for the expansion has not been disclosed.
  • Promotional art for the expansion depicts Geralt confronting a tree monster. Additional details are expected to be released in summer 2025.

Context

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was originally released in 2015. CD Projekt Red has previously released two large expansions for the game: Hearts of Stone (2015) and Blood and Wine (2016).

The "Songs of the Past" expansion brings the narrative closer to the events of the upcoming The Witcher 4, which was announced in 2024 and does not have an official release date. According to one source, if Songs of the Past launches in 2027, The Witcher 4 is speculated to release around 2028.

CD Projekt Red is also working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
