Fire crews are working to extinguish a tyre fire at a business in Logan, south of Brisbane.
Thick black smoke is issuing from the site, and residents have been advised to stay inside and keep doors and windows closed.
Emergency services were called to a tyre shop on Queens Road in Kingston after 1pm after a blaze broke out. Police declared an emergency under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA), with an exclusion zone covering Queens Road from Meakin Road to Allan Street and between Plain Street and Scrubby Creek.
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) said more than a dozen units, including specialty teams, have been mobilised. The fire was contained by 2:30pm but has not been completely extinguished.
One person was taken to hospital with leg and hand burns. Several cars were destroyed.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
